It is only because I own 5 other Japanese cars, 2 European cars, and service 5 friends' cars, and ALL (and I mean ALL) their throttle cables have more slack than the amount this procedure would allow. I estimate approximately 1/8" deflection. Manufacturers don't all do it a certain way for no reason. A few of these cars mentioned above are newer cars even. But like Guapo said, if adjusting it that way has been working for years, then so be it. But I'm just voicing my opinion based on what I have seen.
